![]() But remember, Top One-Hit Wonders focuses solely on artists who hit the Billboard Top 40 once in their career. It’s also the song that qualifies Paul Weller as a one-hit wonder, even though calling him that is ridiculous if you look at his career outside of America. The American version of the record shuffled the songs, deleted a few titles while adding others and included the 12″ single version of “My Every Changing Moods.” This is the version that became Weller’s biggest-ever stateside hit, reaching #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the long hot summer of 1984. And Weller delivers a slow, piano version of “My Ever Changing Moods.” Tracy Thorn of Everything But the Girl sang the torch-song-like “The Paris Match.” Mick Talbot takes lead on some keyboard-driven, soul-feeling tunes. This is about as eclectic of sound as you’ll find in 1983. Never one to rest on success, Weller regrouped (literally) in 1983 with keyboard player Mick Talbot and formed The Style Council. My bet is you may discover a new favorite band. If you don’t know The Jam but enjoy great British pop/punk music, do yourself a favor and discover The Jam today. They never made a dent on the American Billboard Top 40. Formed in the late 1970s and existing until Weller shuttered the sound in 1982, The Jam had 18 consecutive Top 40 hits on the British charts, including four #1 songs. He founded The Jam as a young lad (or Mod as they called them at the time). Let me try to convince you that the man is, indeed, a musical genius. Most Americans have no idea who Paul Weller is and really don’t care. For many British music fans, Paul Weller is a God.
